Gerard Cunningham is a freelance journalist and writer living in Co Kildare. He occupies his time working as a journalist, writer, sub-editor, website designer, podcaster, and occasional photographer.
Best known for coverage of garda tribunals, his most recent project was the Charleton tribunal. He also reported on the Smithwick tribunal (2011-2013), and before that the Morris tribunal between March 2003 and December 2007 for outlets as diverse as the Donegal Democrat and Highland Radio to national media including RTÉ and the Irish Times.
He became a familiar voice on the RTÉ programme Tonight With Vincent Browne, where his regular contributions kept listeners up to date with the shocking and at times surreal revelations at the inquiry into Garda corruption in Co Donegal.
Before turning freelance in 2002, Gerard worked as a journalist with the Donegal Democrat.
He has previously worked as a magazine circulation director, debt collector, fish packer, plastic bag salesman, and box hopper, among other things.
