Unsage Fennell

Barack Obama must be a sign of the times.

In a recent opinion piece for the Irish Times, writer Desmond Fennell bemoaned the decline of the ‘white race’, a dying breed by all accounts.

The at times rambling and rather strange article puts the blame for this decline squarely were it belongs: a ‘flagging will of white westerners to reproduce’, brought about by democratic governments using ‘left-liberals’ and business corporations.

Why business corporations would plot to reduce the potential supply of workers – and consumers – is never made entirely clear.

Fennell fears he is a Cassandra shouting in the wilderness, and no one will heed his vision. Nevertheless, just in case anyone is listening, he calls on everyone to scrutinise ‘the prevailing, “politically correct” rules that bear on women’s lives, and particularly on motherhood.’

There you are then. It’s all the fault of those feminists and their high-faluting jobs.

Fortunately help is at hand, in the shape of Dev’s constitution, which cunningly contains a clause to emphasise how ‘by her life within the home, woman gives to the State a support without which the common good cannot be achieved.’

So there you are. Go forth and multiply, young man.
