‘Let’s just list this for a second.’
‘John McCain says he’s for change too.’
‘Except – So I guess his whole angle is, “watch out George Bush, except for economic policy, healthcare policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove style politics, we’re really going to shake things up in Washington”.’
‘That’s not change.’
‘That’s just calling something, the same thing, something different.’
‘But you know, you can, you can put lipstick on a pig – it’s still a pig.’
So did you think Barack Obama compared Sarah Palin to a pig? As the above quote makes clear, Obama was talking about McCain’s attempts to distance himself from the Republican incumbent in the White House.
Not that this stopped the GOP from jumping with glee, and immediately calling a press conference to denounce the supposed insult to their vice-presidential candidate.
Obama’s response was to accuse McCain of swiftboat politics, calling the controversy ‘phony and foolish‘.
Meanwhile, several press outlets have played a clip of McCain using the same phrase to describe Hilary Clinton’s healthcare policies during the primary season.
Only time will tell whether the American public see through the fog to the issues at stake in this election.
