Blame Game

I blame the baby boomers.

The most spoilt generation in history, the boomers were born at the end of World War II.

In the sixties, as they hit puberty, they acted as if they were the first generation ever to discover sex.

In the seventies, they were responsible for the decade that taste forgot as they left college, settled down, and built houses furnished in lava lamps and shag carpeting. Let’s not even mention disco.

In the eighties, as their careers blossomed, they discovered greed. The same people who marched against Vietnam as a fashion statement in 1968 voted in Reagan and Thatcher, destroying the social reforms their parents put in place after the Great Depression.

The nineties gave us Bill Clinton, the first boomer president. Clinton is the archetype of the nineties boomers, now old enough to take charge of the corporations they asset stripped in the eighties.

The noughties began with Clinton giving way to Bush, interpreted by some as a return to traditional values, but really just one selfish boomer succeeding another. The decade ended with the destruction of the economy by boomer robber barons.

And we’re the ones who will have to pick up the pieces.
