Freelance Forum 2011

It’s that time of year again. At the end of this month, the annual Freelance Forum, organised by the Dublin Freelance NUJ branch, will take place. The format is a series of speakers who talk on subjects of interest to freelance journalists, followed by contributions, questions and discussion from the floor.

This year’s event takes place on 30 May in Buswells hotel. It’s a bargain at only €10 for the day (€20 for non-members of the NUJ), so if you’re interested in learning more, click here to download the PDF programme.

The forum can be useful, not just for the professional knowledge it imparts, but because it allows freelances to meet socially, compare notes, and network. And there’s nothing to stop you adjourning to the bar afterwards for conversation and a coffee or other libation.

So if you want to know how to improve your pitching skills, manage your time, or learn more about the intricacies of the internet or taxation, come along.

The Forum is targeted at working journalists, writers, broadcasters, photographers, whatever. Not every session will suit everyone, but I hope there will be something for everyone in the mix. Feel free to pass the details along to anyone you think might be interested.

You can book your place using the Paypal link below, or through the NUJ office in Dublin (See programme for details).

[UPDATE: Frank Dillon, who was to speak on "The business of Freelancing", has had to withdraw for personal reasons, but we're happy to announce a new session instead on "Sound and Vision: Experiences in pitiching and producing for radio and television, with documentary maker Pat O'Mahony and current affairs producer Dónall Ó Maolfabhail (Scunscan).]
